Who We Are
Mike Wetherill, Owner/Lead Carpenter
I’m Mike, a third generation woodworker and the first to admit it wasn’t the original plan. Despite garnering a red seal in carpentry in 2008, it would take another 6 years and a job building cabins in the gulf islands to finally realize a simple truth; not only did carpentry fit, I actually loved it.
I would eventually start a small residential framing company based in Victoria which I operated for 4 years. My time as a contractor on the island was punctuated at either end by stints in the industrial field, assembling modular works camps in Alberta and doing industrial formwork at a mine in Saskatchewan.
In 2017, life brought me back to the valley I grew up in and in 2020 we settled in Penticton. Around this time I took a job as a project manager with a local company and was exposed to the administrative and management side of building. Then in 2021 our first son was born and we broke ground on our laneway house.
Now we employ a small crew of dedicated individuals that share our enthusiasm for building here in the South Okanagan. We love a challenge, we love good design, and we love using our hands to bring these buildings to life.

Our Name and Logo
The name MEW comes from Mike’s initials, but for the logos sake it’s an ambigram, meaning it looks the same when viewed upside down.
Or if you like cats, that works too.
The pictorial part of the logo is a section of Mike and Charlee’s laneway house. As a logo, it represents an accomplishment for themselves but also the hard road to get there. They hope to apply that same kind of dedication and care to all the projects they’re a part of.
